Interview: Trash80

I believe if they find me, and like what they hear then I've succeeded

Hologram was a project for the 8 bit peoples... I refuse the concept of sending demos to every existing label... I love Europe, and would like to set-up tour dates...

Oscilator: You have published mini LP Hologram, one of the best LP`s I have heard in 2003, when can we expect full length LP?

Trash80: Hologram was a project for the 8 bit peoples record label. There is no LP currently planed, but im sure if there was enough interest or cd`s sold and 8 bit peoples wanted me to, I'd be happy to make a full length.

Oscilator: Please tell us something about your collaboration with Jemgirl, who is that girl, are you planning to work together again?

Trash80: Jemgirl is an acquaintance through my friend Atariboy. They live in Australia, where as I live in USA. It was a online collaboration which I believe was a first for all of us. I'd gave them a few mp3`s of ideas and names, and they came up with the lyrics, recorded them, and we worked it out from there.

Oscilator: Have you contacted some of the "real life" labels and are you planning to sign a deal?

Trash80
: I've sent one promo off to a label, I've yet to hear from them, and don't expect to. I`m interested in working with anyone, but´I refuse the concept of sending demos to every existing label. I believe if they find me, and like what they hear then I've succeeded. I don't want to spend a week-or a month-or a year writing material to have it be trashed or thrown in a bin with 1000 other cd´s. My work and inspiration are based around community response, so the more emails or posts I receive on my site (regardless if it´s a negative or positive comment), the more likely your going to hear from me and see more releases.

Oscilator: Are you satisfied with the feedback from the audience, press...?

Trash80: Well hologram has not received much press or as of yet any reviews. With general feedback I´m very happy to hear people are enjoying it.

Oscilator: Are you planning to play gigs somewhere in Europe?

Trash80: I love Europe, and would like to set-up tour dates, though nothing is planned at the moment. Hopefully I'll have the chance to work with a European label or community to set up a few shows.

Oscilator: Can you tell us something about your studio setup and what is your favourite hardware/software?

Trash80: Haha! Sure... Hardware: gamboys of course, casio cz1 synth. Software: native instruments reaktor, ni fm7, ni absynth, ni kontakt, izotope ozone.

Oscilator: You have done some work for Native Instruments, what do you think about these guys and are you still working together?

Trash80: I've done some work for them, officially a reaktor patch and graphic designs for some of their reaktor4 library. I`m sure I'll do something for them in the future. To me they are the most innovative software synthesis company around. Much respect.

Oscilator: Would you name some of the artists that you liked or find interesting in the last few years?

Trash80: Well there are many, in the gameboy community my favorite artist is covox-his music is amazingly pretty. Else where I like everything from rephlex records to Elloitt Smith, and other pop artists like Bjork, Radiohead, Beck, as well movie scores and anime soundtracks.
